eHealth strategy in Spain – Joining efforts to reach optimal quality and equity Abstract

Biography

Mr. Pablo Rivero, born in Gijón, Asturias (Spain), is a 36-year-old lawyer, and economist, which has enabled him to hold leading positions within the private and public sector. He has been Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Finance & Economic Affairs, Deputy Minister of Strategic Planning & Coordination for the Regional Presidency of the Government of the Balearic Islands (Spain), and Deputy Minister of Planning and Finance for the Ministry of Health of the Balearic Islands (Spain).

Mr. Rivero was the Regional Director of Autonomic Development for the consulting firm Gedas S.A. (Volkswagen Group) in Spain; a firm specializing in information and communication technologies, public sector management, and industrial processes.

He was appointed Director General of Innovation of the Ministry of Health in Andalusia (Spain) in 2004, where Mr. Rivero, has led the development of the autonomic e-Health Innovation Strategic Plan, It includes a state-of-the-art, comprehensive and integrated clinical health information system;, multi-channel, and multi-media public engagement initiatives; as well as innovation banks, tele-health programs, and simulation and virtual reality-based training programs.

In May 2006, Mr. Rivero was the Co-Chair of the European High-Level e-Health Conference, in Malaga (Spain), which brought together Ministers of Health and policy-making leaders from the European Union, to discuss common challenges and develop common approaches to meet them. In 2010 he will be organizing the eHealth Conference in Barcelona.

In 2007 was appointed Vice president and Senior Advisor of Health of the Calgary Health Region in Canada, with the objective of improving citizen engagement through innovation and to promote international collaboration to share best practices.

Presently he is the Director General of Quality of the National health System of Spain with the goal of developing the Strategic health Quality Plan for the country including Clinical excellence lines, CDM strategies, develop advanced information systems and e health.
