Biography

Mining engineer, graduated in 1982 from Technical University Ostrava, where he finished his doctoral studies in 2008. Between 1982 and 1992 worked at Ostrava mines at several managerial posts, last years as a mine director. During his career at Ostrava mines he has been also active as a mine rescuer.

1997 – 2008 acting head of the Union of health insurance institutions of the Czech Republic, co-founder and director of the Centre of International Reimbursements (1999 – 2008), and the National Reference Centre of Health Insurance Institutions (2003 – 2008). Member of the International Cooperation Committee of the Association Internationale de la Mutualité (Brussels). Director General of the Health Insurance Company of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic since April 2008.
