Understanding Business Models for eHealth: A Research Approach Abstract

This presentation introduces a recently started project aimed at reviewing the state of art in evaluation methodologies and approaches as applied in the field of eHealth systems, assessing current demand for eHealth systems and exposing examples of best practice in eHealth business models for i) clinical information systems, ii) telemedicine and homecare systems and services, iii) integrated regional/national health information networks, and iv) distributed electronic health, secondary use of non-clinical systems. The final objective of the project, whose compleation is expected for December 2009, is to outline a vision of the role e-Health can have in responding to the health systems’ pressures and its sustainability across the four domains delineated above.

Lorenzo Valeri Research Leader, RAND Europe

Biography

Lorenzo Valeri is a research leader at RAND Europe, a leading European independent organisation aimed at assisting governments, industry and international organisations in their public policy needs. He is an expert in assessing the operational and business implications of IT within complex organisations and related public policy requirements. He has been with RAND Europe since 2001 with a two year spell as manager at Accenture, the leading IT and management consultancy. He has also been a staff member at the Working Group on Information Security and Privacy of the OECD. He holds a PhD and Master from King’s College London where he was a Marie Curie Fellow and undergraduate degrees from LUISS University in Rome and Georgetown University.
