Biography
Bernat SORIA ESCOMS, MD, PhD is Minister of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Spanish Government since 2007. He is also a Member of the Spanish Parliament (Socialist Group). Prior to his ministerial appointment, he was Director of CABIMER (Andalusian Centre for Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine). A renowned researcher, he is Doctor of Medicine and Extraordinary Professor of Regenerative Medicine. He has been President of the Spanish Society of Physiological Sciences (1998-2000), the Spanish Society of Biophysics (1999-2003), the Spanish Society of Diabetes (2000-2004), and the European Association of Biophysical Societies (2003-2005). He has been Visiting Professor in different universities and invited lecturer by main scientific societies. Numerous awards in recognition to his scientific work include the Gold Medal and Prize of the Royal Academy of Medicine.
